An almost year-round concern in the context of farm animal healthcare, the battle against parasites such as worms and flukes is an ongoing one on every Irish farm.

Both are seasonal issues – worms usually being prominent from May until December, with flukes more of a problem between October and February. Coughing (lungworm) and scouring (stomach worm) are amongst the most common symptoms and there are several different options for treatment, including a number of items that can combat both at the same time.

The final decision should take your exact circumstances into consideration and this is where Stock Health staff members’ own farming experience is invaluable. Drenches, injectables, pour ons, long acting and short acting solutions all have their own strengths and weaknesses and it is essential to understand these in full if you are to get the best possible outcomes.

Where laboratory tests might be needed to determine the nature of a problem, we can arrange for these to the taken – and with a vet working with the company on a daily basis, we have additional veterinary knowledge on hand at all times.
